Taken its sweet time

Asus has finally gotten its bamboo notebooks, yes, that's plural as in multiples of two, ready; or at least enough so that the company has issued a press release with the specifications of these two new models, although the company doesn't seem to have decided upon final model names as of right now, as they're just referring to the notebooks as the Asus Bamboo series.

What we've got here is two ultra portable notebooks, both using LED backlit LEDs measuring either 12.1 or 11.1 inches. The 12.1-inch model weighs in at a very portable 1.57kg with a 3-cell battery, while the 11.1-inch model competes with netbooks at a mere 1.25kg, also with a 3-cell battery.

Starting with the 12.1-inch model, you're looking at a selection of the latest mobile Core 2 Duo processors, Intel's new PM45 mobile chipset and Intel's WiMAX/WiFi Link 5100 card. It also has room for up to 4GB of DDR2 800MHz memory, a 2.5-inch hybrid hard drive with 256MB of flash and a storage capacity from 160 to 320GB. Graphics is provided by a Geforce 9300GS with 256MB of memory, and there's also a built-in slim-line optical drive, a multi-format card reader and a 0.3Megapixel Webcam.

The 11.1-inch model relies on the Intel Core Duo U7600 processor, Intel's GM965 chipset with integrated X3100 graphics and a selection of Intel WiFi cards. It also has space for up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, albeit slower 667MHz modules, and it relies on a 32GB SSD drive for storage; while the optical drive is external from what we can tell. It also has a multi-format card reader and a 0.3Megapixel Webcam.

We don't have any pricing details or even a release date as yet, but we'd expect them both to cost a pretty penny, considering the specifications.

You can find the press release here.
