Pretty much over for RadioShack

Ends in bankruptcy with 2,400 stores to be sold

The end of RadioShack is apparently finally at hand. The company has filed for bankruptcy which makes all of the rumors over the last several month end in truth.

From what we are hearing 2,400 of its stores will be sold or closed.

Some of the stores looks like they will be snatched up by Amazon which has plans to use them as a brick-and-mortar presence that will offer a number of Amazon services/products. We don't know all of the Amazon plans just yet, but it could prove interesting.

Sprint will be keeping RadioShack alive within its own stores with Radio Shack selling the parts and accessories and Sprint selling the service. We are not exactly sure how this will look. We are also hearing that Sprint may end up buying some RadioShack locations and turning them into Sprint stores as well.

Over the years RadioShack tried several times to reinvent itself, but it was just never that successful. It did however plan a big part in a lot of ways in the electronics and computer revolution. Still even today, I can remember when I needed a specific specialty rechargeable battery and no one else in town had it, Radio Shack did. Not to say that the price for it was 3 times what I could get it for on Amazon, the point was they had the battery when I needed it. So long RadioShack, despite what some may say; you will be missed.
