Apple believes that it will sell more than five million 3G iPhones this quarter despite the fact the phone has a faulty chipset which might be difficult to repair.

Punters seem to have ignored complaints about dropped calls, slow network speeds and other errors and bought the phone in droves. One of the reasons is that people seem to believe that if there are problems with the phone Apple will fix them, although so far Apple has not officially said that there are any issues with the iPhone.

Unofficially, Apple is expected to come up with a fix in September.  Although why it installed the Infineon chipset, which has been known to be buggy for four years, in the first place is anyone's guess.
