Internet broke in Australia

by on06 January 2015

Time for a cold tube cobber

It became so hot in Western Australia that the Internet broke yesterday.

ISP iiNet reported that the weather was so hot that the cooling systems in its Perth datacentre became hotter than an outback squatter’s armpit and started to overheat.

This left thousands of customers without access to services, or at least forced to go walkabout to the nearest bar drink large amounts of beer. Since they were probably going to do this anyway, it being Monday and a bit hot, few people noticed.

Perth hit 45 degrees on Monday. Apparently, they fixed the Internet with number eight fencing wire and it was all right as rain.

Things have cooled down a bit and today it was expected to be only 36C which is unlikely to hurt any datacentres. Remind me why the hell I am in this frozen hell hole when there is a place which is warm at this time of year?
