Official announcement coming soon

If you happen to work in a company that uses Lotus Notes and is currently using BlackBerry mobile devices that are connected to your company’s Notes servers using BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Lotus Notes, a big announcement that has been rumored for a while could spell a move by your company to the iPhone in the future.

Yes, it is true; and we have been able to confirm it from our sources. Lotus Notes will be coming to the 3G version of the iPhone and it will be know as iNotes. While the official announcement is expected to be made soon, Lotus has been working on the development of iNotes for some time now.

The backend of the iNotes platform will be built on the Lotus Domino Web Access infrastructure and those that have seen sneak previews have told us of a rich experience using iNotes on the iPhone that rivals the best BlackBerry and Good Messaging solutions that we have seen for enterprise customers.

While Apple continues to work on the development of enterprise related features of the iPhone, some IT shops continue to be a bit skeptical at the moment of the ability to manage the iPhone and integrate it into their environment, mostly citing security concerns as the main reason.

With the introduction of iNotes, however, shops that are already using Notes could be tempted to move the iPhone running iNotes, as the popularity of the iPhone continues to increase. The capabilities of iNotes are said to rival the latest version of the BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows Mobile OS and provide the rich iPhone type experience that users are looking for.

Only time will tell if this turns out to be the smartest move that Lotus has ever made with Notes or whether it ends up as just another footnote in enterprise computing history.
