Microsoft resurrects hardware show

WinHEC back from the dead

Microsoft resurrected its WinHEC conference, but with a different name, different target market and different venue.

WinHEC, which stood for Windows Hardware Engineering Conference, was held annually. Microsoft would lay out its hardware plans, almost entirely centred around the client PC and servers. The last WinHEC was in 2008 and Microsoft merged it with another called the Build conference starting in 2011.

The new WinHEC was announced in a blog post by Matt Perry who wanted that it was not the same conference really. The name now stands for Windows Hardware Engineering Community and the event will cover PCs, servers, tablets and smartphones.

The first of the new conferences will be held on March 18-19, 2015 in Shenzhen, China. The next one will be in in Taipei, Taiwan. This is because the Far East is where the hardware is these days and not the US.
