At least in the U.S.

Dell has announced that it is carbon neutral, reaching its green target a year early.

According to the press release, none of Dell's manufacturing plants and offices are emitting any carbon dioxide into the atmosphere because the outfit uses techniques that absorb carbon dioxide. The outfit has splashed out on 'green power' made from wind, solar and methane-gas since 2004. and upped the amount it has been buying from 12 million kWh to 116 million kWh.

Dell's global HQ runs on 100 percent green energy. Dell is also making additional investments in wind power in the U.S., China and India. However cynical types at News.com point out that the press release is vague as to whether this carbon neutrality applies to all Dell offices and manufacturing facilities worldwide or only to Dell's global headquarters in Texas.

The thing is that most of Dell's really nasty polluting factories are in places like Malaysia, where green energy is rarer than a Christmas number one hit for German thrash band Kreator.
