Newegg now ships in UK, Australia

by on09 April 2014

European expansion starts today

Back in February, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we got confirmation from Newegg executives that the company is coming to Europe. Well, it finally happened and as of today Newegg is shipping a limited selection of its products to customers in the United Kingdom and Australia.

We do know that Australia is quite far from Europe but as you can imagine, Newegg wants to tap English speaking countries first before it tries to conquer the rest of Europe (and the world).

Soren Mills, Chief Marketing Officer for Newegg sees this expansion as an important step forward for Newegg and it sure is. German speaking countries alone account for an additional 100 million customers and Europe as a whole has more than 500 million inhabitants, in a few dozen countries with dozens of different languages.

Customers from UK and Australia will be able to select their countries and once they get the product that is available for their countries, Newegg will show the shipping price as well as the estimated tax and duty costs. Newegg also created a new category called “Newegg Global Eligible” that will ensure that there Newegg will ship these items to places outside the USA.

It starts with a small part of Newegg US line-up, but the offer will be expanded in the coming months. We tried it and it's a hassle to find what will actually ship to the UK. Apparently all five test items that we chose at the Newegg global section were not available for UK, not a great start but it should get better. Keep in mind that all Newegg products will never be available outside the US, as Newegg carries a lot of stuff designed to work solely with US telecom carriers, or on the US power grid.
