Xbox One to get Dolby Digital optical support

by on04 March 2014

Will be part of the March update

The Xbox One will finally get Dolby Digital support. Despite the codec being one of the most popular, the Xbox One offers no support for Dolby Digital when using the optical out. Microsoft promised that Dolby Digital optical output support was promised to be added by Microsoft at a later date.

That later date as come now as Microsoft will be adding the optical Dolby Digital support as part of the March update. The reason that many want this support is that many high end headphone offerings from companies like Turtle Beach, Trittion, and Astro rely on this connection to function.

While we still don’t have an official release date for the March update, we continue to hear that it could start rolling out as soon as this weekend, ahead of the Xbox One release of Titanfall. Sources insist that Microsoft is unlikely to release it on the same day that Titanfall is released and time is running out.
