Yet another netbook

With Asus, MSI and Acer already busy shipping their netbooks, it seems like Dell is a little bit slow to get its E out on the market. Now it appears as if the final specifications have at least made their way onto the web thanks to eeextra.com.

There will be three different configurations of the E, Classic, Video and Video+. Common spec's include a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, an 8.9in display with 1,024x600 resolution, 802.11b/g WiFi, Ethernet, an SD Card reader, three USB ports and a D-sub connector. The operating system will be either Linux or Windows XP.

The E Classic (we're not sure how it can be a classic when it hasn't even launched yet) comes with 512MB memory and a 4GB SSD. The Video gets upgraded to 1GB of memory, an 8GB SSD, Bluetooth and a 0.3Megapixel webcam. Finally the Video+ comes with a 12GB SSD, otherwise it's the same as the Video.

Interestingly, eeextra.com also claims to have gotten the lowdown on the E Slim, but we're not so sure these specifications are correct as they claim it will come with either a 1.3 or 1.6GHz based Silverthorne based Atom processor. The Silverthorne core is meant for MID devices and we're not sure why Dell would even consider using this for a 12.1in notebook.

The display has a resolution of 1,366x768 and the E Slim should come with one or two Gigabyte of memory, as well as a 40 or 60GB 1.8in hard drive. The rest of the specifications seem similar to the previous E models, although the E Slim should be a mere 211mm thick.

The E Classic should come in at US$299 (€189/£151) which sounds incredibly cheap, although it might be worth saving up for the Video model at least, as we wouldn't expect it to be that much more expensive. Expect the E to launch some time in August.
