Labour groups have closely watched the labour practices of the contract manufacturer for Apple gear. The same factory last year admitted to having temporarily hired underage interns. Now the Beijing Times said that some engineering students from the Xi'an Institute of Technology were told that they wouldn't graduate if they refused to participate in the internship program in Foxconn's manufacturing site.
The article said the students made Sony PlayStation game consoles at the company's Yantai campus. Foxconn said student participation in the internship program is voluntary, interns are free to terminate their internship at any time and interns aren't allowed to take part in overtime work or work night shifts.
"Immediate actions have been taken to bring that campus into full compliance with our code and policies," the company said.
