TOMMO ordered to stop Neo Geo X production

by on07 October 2013

License & Distribution agreement was terminated

SNK Playmore has reportedly terminated the licensing and distribution agreement it had with TOMMO to produce, sell, and distribute the Neo Geo X Gold. SNK claims that they terminated the agreement on October 2nd and have asked TOMMO to “immediately cease any and all manufacturing, distribution, marketing, and promotion of the Neo Geo X Gold and its line of Neo Geo X Classic games.” In addition SNK says that they have asked TOMMO to remove the SNK Neo Geo X Arcade Stick from the shelves of both physical and digital store fronts.

It is not clear exactly what has happened and why SNK Playmore has moved to terminate its licensing agreement with TOMMO, but it is clear that so far it would appear that inventory is still available from a variety of sources. We have heard a number of unverified rumors that have suggested that the issues apparently revolved around sales and royalties which should come as little surprise.

While the Neo Geo X Gold was not perfect, it did give many the ability to experience the world of Neo Geo that many never had the chance to check out. It is unknown if SNK Playmore has plans of its own to revive the Neo Geo or its games since it has terminated the agreement with TOMMO.
