Google contacts sync to iPhone now possible
It seems that we can never get enough iPhone news these days. Apple has released a new beta build of the Software Development Kit for the iPhone. The new build is identified as 9M2192 Beta 6.
Those that are registered as iPhone developers can download the latest iPhone SDK from the iPhone Dev Center. One word of note is that the latest iPhone SDK does require that you have the latest Mac OS 10.5.3 update installed, which was just released.
Speaking of the Mac OS 10.5.3 update, one interesting addition is that it is now possible to do Google Contacts to iPhone syncs once you have the 10.5.3 update installed.
This feature will appear in your Address Book preferences once you have completed the 10.5.3 update. This allows the user to access a Google account and then the contacts will be updated each time the iPhone is synced.
Speculation continues as to why Apple would add Google support. Apple did add support for Yahoo’s address book and mail service to sync with iPhone last year. While some analysts seem to be reading something into this addition, we currently see it as nothing more than Apple responding to customer needs and extending the abilities of the iPhone.
