Aviary and AMD team up over Windows 8

by on19 March 2013

Apparently there is money in it

The photo-editing outfit Aviary and chipmaker AMD have partnered on a new Windows 8 project.

AMD Ventures put an undisclosed amount into the software startup, which enabled the development of Aviary’s new Windows 8 SDK that will take advantage of AMD’s APU. Aviary rolled out its first Windows 8 app to show off the SDK. It means that Win8 developers will get access to a library of effects and filters for photo editing using the new Microsoft language C++ Accelerated Massive Parallelism.

AMP allows for computations to be performed in parallel on the GPU cores instead of the CPU. AMD says this will mean that photoediting can be done 16 times faster. Aviary’s Photo Editor for Windows 8 is available in the Windows Store.
