No more Abit motherboards after P45?

According to Digitimes, USI (or Universal Scientific Industrial), the owner of Abit, is considering to exit the motherboard market due to the poor performance Abit has shown this year. Since USI took over Abit, the company has lost most of its engineering and marketing teams and closed down several sales offices.

The product range has also moved from high-end retail motherboards to entry-level boards in what is a very fierce market with growing competition from cheaper Chinese motherboard manufacturers.

The Intel 4-series-based motherboards from Abit might be its last, unless the company manages to increase its market share, but considering that other companies are already standing at Abit's door step just waiting to take over its market share, it seems like Abit is going to have a tough time clawing back any kind of market share.

USI might keep the Abit brand for some other product ranges, but no specifics were revealed. It will indeed be a sad day if Abit dissapears, but considering that the company is no longer what it once was, it might just be like putting the wounded beast out of its misery.
