Said to fix data corruption bug

The Microsoft Windows Home Server Team announced details of an upcoming public beta of what they are calling “Windows Home Server Power Pack 1,” which will include a much needed fix for the data corruption bug that has plagued users since its release.

In addition to the fix for the data corruption bug, the WHS Team said that Power Pack 1 will also include a host of other bug fixes as well as several new capabilities. Right now, little is known about what specific bug fixes and new capabilities will be addressed by the Power Pack 1 beta.

According to the WHS team, the folder data corruption bug which is talked about in more detail in knowledge base article #946676 will require sufficient time for feedback and testing to deliver a fix that is of the highest quality.

While the WHS team says that the Power Pack 1 public beta is planned to start in June, the length of the beta is not really known as this time. The timetable for the release of Power Pack 1 will be totally dependent on how the testing goes and what kind of feedback the WHS team receives.

The WHS team will start accepting sign-ups starting today, but we agree with the suggestion that you must have a complete backup of all of your files before entering the beta program. The fix for the data corruption bug can’t come soon enough; we believe that these problems have delivered a black eye on what should otherwise be a stellar product with much potential for many home users that have old hardware suitable for WHS use. Let’s hope that they are able to address the issue with Power Pack 1 and deliver the fix quickly so this product can really show what it is capable of.
