After years, it seems that the 3D movie industry is about to take off.

Movie exhibitor, Regal Entertainment Group, has reached a deal with privately held RealD 3D to upgrade 1,500 screens with 3-D technology. The Regal deal is the largest commitment to 3-D by any movie theatre chain, the companies said, raising the number of screens running RealD's 3-D technology to over 3,500.

The movie theatres have to upgrade to digital projectors and can then add the 3-D technology. Film studios are rushing to put out more films in 3D that use the technology, and there is a concern that there will not be enough theatres capable of showing them.
