AMD exec defects to Samsung

by on27 December 2012

Migration continues

Another AMD veterans has fled the company and joined a rival as the company continues to restructure.

Michael Goddard who has been with the company for 25 years and was corporate VP for product design engineering and chief engineer on client products has defected to Samsung as a VP and system architect at its facility in Austin, Texas. Goddard was a deeply respected engineer at the company, worked closely in the late 1990s with Dirk Meyer. He also spent some time with AMD’s design operations in India. People close to AMD were surprised by the move. He would not have been pushed out and would have gone under his own steam.

Before Goddard, at least 26 executives of varying levels of seniority left the company in recent months. Some were fired in earlier rounds of reorganisations ordered by CEO Rory Read, some left for new jobs. This year AMD cut 15 percent of its workforce and will slash even more jobs early in 2013. This has made industry analysts question if AMD has enough engineers to make its roadmaps happen.
