With Apple's "Death Star" campus being delayed, it seems some aspiring citizens of the United States are in support of having their government construct an actual Star Wars style Death Star.  The petition to the Obama administration via the White House website, can be found here.

The reasoning as set forth in the petition is such that, "By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense."

The petition suggests that a target date for funding, and the beginning of construction of the Death Star would begin by 2016.  As of the time of this posting over 19,000 people have digitally signed the petition. In order for the proposal to get a response, it needs to only gather an addtional 6,000 signatures by December 14, 2012.
