EA has plans for 3 to 5 new IP

by on31 August 2012

Only for the next generation of consoles

These days it seems that launching of new IP is few and far between, but Frank Gibeau from EA labels says that the company has already started working on 3 to 5 new IP titles for the next generation of consoles, which translates into the Xbox Next and PlayStation 4.

The company has apparently made a big investment in technologies that are directed at this next generation of consoles, which will be highlighted by the Frostbite 2 engine developed by DICE that has a lot of legs to expand and will allow it to take advantage of the next generation of consoles. Gibeau admits that the company made a few mis-steps along the way with the start of the current generation of consoles. The step up from standard definition graphics to high definition graphics was much of the issue that made the transition difficult.

While no exact names of the new IP were revealed, it is good news to hear that new and different IP is coming; but it is also a stark reminder that the software development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is going to start to wind down, and we would not expect much new IP for these systems beyond next year.
