AMD announced that Jim Keller has joined its ranks as of Wednesday. Keller is a 53-year-old veteran who already worked for AMD back in the nineties and early 2000s, but he spent the last few years working on Apple chips.

Keller joins AMD as corporate VP and chief CPU architect and he will report to AMD CTO Mark Papermaster, himself a former Apple exec.

In a statement Papermaster said Keller is one of the most widely respected and sought-after innovators in the industry. Papermaster believes Keller will make a very strong addition to AMD’s engineering team and he will bring sine much needed low-power design expertise to the table.

Interestingly, in July Apple hired AMD chip designer John Bruno, who was the last name in a long list of execs and engineers who bid farewell to AMD. It’s nice to see that AMD is still capable of attracting talent.
