Possible unveiling at Mobile World Congress

Japan-based Android gadget blog Ameblo.jp has recently discovered some juicy information regarding two currently unnamed Samsung tablets that are expected to debut at Mobile World Congress 2012 in just a few weeks.

According to several sources, these newly discovered tablets are expected to sport Samsung's new 2.0GHz Exynos 5250 powerhouse 32nm SoC based on ARM Cortex-A15 architecture, which just begun sampling earlier last week. While other hardware details of these next-generation tablets are currently under wraps, a recent Wi-Fi Certified Interoperability Certificate from the Wi-Fi Alliance lists the tablets under codenames GT-P3110 and GT-P5110.

Samsung's second-generation Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, released in November 2011, was codenamed GT-6200, where "GT" denoted "Galaxy Tab" and "P" denoted the device was a tablet. If the company retains its same labeling scheme, these new Wi-Fi Certified tablets will become third-generation Galaxy Tabs with different price points and screen sizes, respectively.

At this point in time, analysts are fully expecting Samsung to announce a third-generation iPad competitor at Mobile World Congress 2012. If rumors are true that Apple's next iPad will feature a 2560 x 1536 Retina Display with unparalleled pixel density, then Samsung will most likely launch one of these codenamed tablets with a pixel resolution of at least 2560 x 1600. Processing power should not be a concern, as the new Exynos 2GHz 32nm SoC is more than capable of providing enough performance to power a tablet display with the resolution of a 30-inch LCD monitor. At the same time, it is possible that one of these tablets may ditch the Retina Display resolution in favor of a smaller, cost-effective design to compete with Amazon's highly successful Kindle Fire.

Nevertheless, we should know more about the fate of Samsung's GT-P3110 and GT-P5110 tablets around Mobile World Congress 2012 at the end of this month.
