Deal worth $800 million

BMC Systems announced that it has put together a deal to acquire BladeLogic, the data center automation vendor much sought after.  Industry analysts had speculated that BladeLogic’s technology might be acquired by IBM, Computer Associates or even EMC.

In a deal worth $800 million BMC appears to have come up the winner. According to IDC, in fiscal 2008 BladeLogic’s data center automation is anticipated to deliver $90 million in revenue from slightly more than 70 customers.

BladeLogic began in 2001 as an automated server provisioning software company and grew to update and configure virtual and physical machines, eventually growing into compliance, security and governance with enterprise customers.

BladeLogic’s Board of Directors has already unanimously recommended that the shareholders accept the offer. The deal is expected to be completed within less than 90 days.
