Maker
of chips and bits, Intel is apparently close to releasing a new line of solid-state drives for laptop and notebook PCs.

Intel has confirmed that the cunning plan is to release 1.8-in. and 2.5-in solid-state drives offering between 80GB and 160GB diskless storage. The prediction is that they will appear in the second quarter.

Fudzilla saw the solid state drive prototype at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year. At the time, despite offering to take the nice Intel booth girl out for a drink, Intel would not tell us it if would flog the drives independently. or through laptop and PC makers.

We expect to see the newer versions of the drive in April when Intel shows them to the Intel Developer Forum. However, it is a fairly good bet that they will be released then, anyway.
