Seagate to ship Cheetah 15K.6 HDD

Enterprise drives with 28% more performance

Seagate has announced that it will start shipping the new 15K Cheetah drives that will continue to be targeted at enterprise storage applications. The New Cheetah drives will be known as the 15K.6 series, and it will offer a 28 percent performance increase in sustained transfer rates over the previous generation, while using up to 61 percent less power while in idle and access modes than the previous generation drives.

The drives will be available in 147GB, 300GB, and 450GB sizes, and use Seagate’s second generation perpendicular recording technology. The 15.6K series will be offered in a 3.5” form factor and offer a choice of SAS or FC interfaces. The 15.6K series will be covered by a 5-year warranty.
