We already wrote about this, and this time it's final. Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware decided to move next year’s Games Convention event to Köln. The main reason for this is cited as increased growth of visitors and insufficient capacities in Leipzig. First of all, it’s the lack of available accommodation units followed by traffic infrastructure that are overburdened as it is.
The name itself will be changed, because Leipzig reserves the right for the name, so the event will from 2009 be called GAMESCom. The schedule will also be changed, so instead of August, the event will be held from the 9th to the 13th of September. The reason for this is, as BIU claims, the holiday season that negatively affects the number of both visitors and exhibitors in August.
That means that this year we will see the last Games Convention event in Leipzig scheduled for 21st-24th of August.
