Roll up your sleeve and heat up that spoon
According to a new study Facebook and Google could be as addictive as drugs, although it is not clear which drugs.

The research, conducted by British boffins, found that people suffering from internet withdrawal reported feeling lonely and upset, which is a bit strange since people surf the net alone and learn the most upsetting information from the internet as well.

Of the 1,000 people to take part in the survey, 40 percent said they felt lonely if they went a day without internet. One participant likened the experience to having his hand copped off. Basically, most of them exhibited the usual withdrawal symptoms. There are also some differences with regard to age. While young users assume a fetal position and start sobbing when they disconnect, about a quarter of older participants said not having to use the net made them feel free.

However, some experts believe excessive use of internet services could hardly be described as a addiction and it is more of an obsessive compulsive pattern. We are still a long way from Facebook addicts selling their bodies or stolen cheeseburgers on run-down street corners to pay for their wireless.
