Microsoft to show off Windows tablet OS next week

by on27 May 2011

Taste of things to come
Microsoft is apparently preparing to preview a Windows version geared for ARM tablets next week.

According to Bloomberg, citing sources close to the company, the new OS will be showcased on a Tegra-based device at the All Things D conference and the Computex show.

Although Microsoft was traditionally focused on proper x86 operating systems and software, the outfit has stepped up its efforts to regain a foothold in the ARM market as well. The new Windows Phone Mango update is on the way and a tablet version of Windows has been in the works for quite some time.

However, taking on iOS and Android in the tablet market is a bit like invading Russia in late November, but Microsoft is left without a choice as it cannot ignore the tablet and smartphone markets anymore.
