Ballmer stuffs up Windows release date

by on26 May 2011

Microsoft denies it
Software giant Microsoft has made the unusual step of saying its chief executive Steve “the mime” Ballmer was wrong about the release date of Windows 8.

On Monday, Steve Ballmer said Windows 8 would come put next year and throughout this year you will hear a lot about Windows 8. Windows 8 slates, tablets, PCs, a variety of different form factors. This is a repeat of what we have been saing for ages and and Ballmer hinted at during CES in January.

However a Microsoft spokeswoman said Ballmer made a misstatement as Redmond was eagerly awaiting the next generation of Windows 7 hardware that will be available in the coming fiscal year. To date, Microsoft had not yet announced any timing or naming for the next version of Windows. What Microsoft is worried about is that if corporate buyers know that Windows 8 is just around the corner, they will hold off on purchasing systems and replacing some ancient XP systems that are out there.

If Ballmer's words put off buying PCs because they're interested to see what Windows 8 is like, things could turn ugly it could cause the outfit a few problems. Already US hedge fund owner, David Einhorn, called for Ballmer's scalp claiming that the outfit has floundered under Ballmer's 11-years in charge.
