The smug and the furious
Although we have been witnessing the demise of traditional car stereos for over a decade now, the market is still pretty much alive and Pioneer hopes it reinvigorate it with a pinch of iOS.

The outfit’s latest product, dubbed AppRadio, is a double-DIN device with a large screen and iOS support. Although the stereo itself does not have built in iOS, it is designed to offer seamless connectivity with i-devices.

AppRadio features a 6.1-inch capacitive touchscreen which supports a wide range of gestures and allows users to directly interact with apps on their fruity gadgets. Of course, this does not mean you should play games or update your facebook profile behind the wheel, but AppRadio is optimized for in-car functionality. However, so far Pioneer is offering just four apps optimized for the new device.

AppRadio should launch sometime in June and we must say that it is a rather interesting product that promises to deliver a lot of functionality with the prolific and intuitive iOS interface. Sadly, most new cars simply can’t accommodate after market stereos, especially double-DIN units. There is still no word on price, but you can check out an an interesting video preview on Engadget.
