Cisco re-organises

Keeping quiet about lay-offs
Networking giant Cisco has announced that it will be carrying out structural changes soon but is keeping quiet about who will be forced to clear out their desks and collect their p45s.

The restructuring has been expected for some time after Cicso had several bad quarters. Last month it killed off its Flip Video camcorder business. It has talked about focusing on core businesses such as network  routing, switching and services; collaboration; data center virtualization; architectures and video.

Stage two of the plan is to re-organise operations according to three geographic regions. Apparently its services business will be changed so that it is focused on different customer segments. The outfit's engineering organisation will be streamlined and controlled by three "councils". Those councils will focus on enterprise, service provider, emerging countries and collecting rubbish. We made the last one up.

Cisco thinks that all these changes will happen over the next 120 days however it has not said if there will be any more layoffs.
