Slashdot claims that Amazon secretly canceled orders for a large jazz CD set when it realized it had put the wrong price on it.
The CD should have been priced at $499, but had been advertised for £31. Initially, there was a shortage of product, but when Amazon realized that it was underpriced it erased all records of customers' orders in their account history. Slashdot said that no emails were sent to customers informing them of the price change or of the order cancellation.
Amazon has a highly publicized price guarantee policy, and one customer who complained and requested the CD set at the $31 price was given a $20 discount off of his next Amazon order.
