It will cost the U.S. more than $100 billion to fix its Internet infrastructure to cope with the need for more broadband.

The report from Educause said that the U.S. is in desperate need of 100Mbps "big broadband." The report compiled by IT managers at over 2,200 U.S. colleges and universities said that 100Mbps connections were coming too slowly.

Countries like Japan already have this, and if the U.S. is not going to fall behind them they will have to spend $100 billion for a fiber-to-the-doorstep infrastructure that will connect every household and business in the country.
