320GB per platter drives

Western Digital announced that they will start to ship their new family of Caviar hard drives that will feature 320GB per platter technology. This is the same industry leading technology that has already been shipping on the company’s 160GB per platter (320GB capacity) 2.5-inch Scorpio mobile hard drives since October of 2007.

WD says that the high-performance platter technology that they are using is a result of executing on their product road map and investing significant money into research and development. WD will start to ship the 3.5-inch hard drives with the 320GB per platter density immediately, and continue to deploy it to WD’s desktop, enterprise, CE and external hard drives throughout the year.
