Using Samsung's A1 hard drives

LaCie has launched two tiny portable hard drives based on Samsung's 1.3-inch Spinpoint A1 disk.

The first one is the LaCie Little Disk, and this has to be one of the dullest product names we've heard in months. They made up for their lack of imagination in naming the drive by designing one cute little fellow. It looks very stylish, much like a PMP or a similar fashioned gadget, if only it were a tad slimmer. It weighs 85 grams and comes in two sizes: 30 and 40GB, priced at $130 and $160. LaCie promises transfer speeds around 30MB/s and offers a two-year warranty.

The USB Key Max isn't as good looking as the Little Disk, but it's a bit smaller and weighs just 60 grams. However, these aren't the only differences. With a transfer speed of 15MB/s the Key Max is much slower than the Little Disk, but it's also more affordable, costing $120 for the 30GB and $150 for the 40GB version. It comes with a one-year warranty.
