After a 30 year run
We’re not sure how many of our readers actually remember the time of cassette tapes, but those who do will definitely stop and think about how time flies. Sony has now announced that they’re pulling the plug on the Walkman after some 30 years and the last batch has been shipped in April.

The first Walkman was made in 1979 and launched in Japan. It then went on to conquer the world and to this day, cassette tape Walkmans have sold in more than 200 million units. Of course, it probably helped that music didn’t suck so bad back then.

Note that this does not in any way mean the death of the brand, as CD and MD-based Walkman equipment will still be around.
