Consumer choice ?

There are signs that Microsoft might do the unthinkable and support a Blu-ray add-on drive for the XboX 360.

"It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," said Albert Penello, Group Marketing Manager for Xbox hardware, adding that Warner Brothers decision to go Blu-ray exclusive should not adversely affect XboX 360 sales.

According to some reports, Microsoft sold approximately a quarter of a million HD DVD add-on drives for its XboX 360 console thus far. It's safe to assume that these early adopters won't be ecstatic if the company decides to support Blu-ray in any shape or form.

"I want consumers to have a voice in this and I think there are a lot of consumers who bought HD-DVD who are going to have a say in how this shakes out." Yeah, right. At the moment it's hard to imagine what the consumers, or the company for that matter, could do to remedy the situation.

Furthermore, if Microsoft is serious about listening to consumers, it's hard to imagine that they would pick HD DVD over Blu-ray at the moment, as HD DVD seems to be going the way of the Dodo.
