Yankowski to be new CEO

Former Palm Inc. Chief Executive Officer, Carl James Yankowski, was announced Monday as the new CEO of Ambient Devices. Yankowski led Palm through the glory years of 1991 to 2001 and left the company after being bumped out of that post. Previously, Yankowski served as President of Sony Electronics.

Yankowski’s  being brought into Ambient signals a new path for the company, which is best known for its Ambient Orb, a crystal-ball-shaped device that uses abstract colors to display information. The move also signals a shift in company focus to mass market, high-profit consumer oriented electronics.

Ambient was just recently announced as a winner of the 2008 CES Innovations Award for its Ambient 7-Day Weather Forecaster.

David L. Rose, the previous CEO and co-founder of Ambient, will be leaving the company, but will continue to hold a significant equity stake in the company.
