Dell has finally launched its anticipated Latitude XT tablet PC and it hold a few surprises, such as the fact that it is using an AMD chipset with ATI X1250 integrated graphics. It has a 1,280x800 widescreen 12.1-inch display with LED backlit option, and a capacitive touchscreen with palm detection (your hands, not the PDA company) and active digitizer.

The CPU option will be ULV Intel Core Solo and Duo processors at 1.06 and 1.2GHz. Oddly enough,  it's limited to 3GB of DDR2 RAM. The hard drive range starts at a measly 40GB, but we presume that Dell has fitted a 1.8 in hard drive, although upgrade options all the way up to 120GB are available, as well as the very expensive SSD route.

Other neat features includes HSDPA or EVDO high speed data connectivity, depending on what country you live in, a wide range of different WiFi standards, Bluetooth 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire, three USB 2.0 ports, an SD card slot and an Express Card 54 slot.

It weighs in at 1.62kg and it's about 2.5cm thick. You'll need to buy the optional dock to get an optical drive and Dell claims up to 9.5 hours battery life with an optional battery slice.

Prices start from US$2,500, which seems quite expensive considering the fairly mundane specs, although ULV are expensive.
