Don't forget about the Commodore 64

The
legendary Commodore 64 really needs no introduction, but due to the fact that it's a quarter of a century old, some of our younger readers might need to catch up on their reading. After all, not everyone is an old geek geezer from the stone age, and even a couple of our own team members are a year or two younger than the machine in question. In case you need to find out more about it, check out the Wikipedia entry, here.

Just remembering the endless messing about with the tape deck and the super noisy 5.25" floppy drive is guaranteed to give you some nostalgic flashbacks. However, the C64 was far from being an unpleasant device to use. For its day, it was an exceptionally well-designed and capable unit with an acceptable price tag. It became a popular cultural icon of the decade in its lifetime, and still has a strong following on the Internet on sites such as c64.com. More recently, Rockstar paid homage to the machine in its GTA Vice City opening scene, but they could have picked some better music for the tribute.

Although it was launched in August 1982, the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California is throwing an anniversary party for the beige fat device today. You can find out more here.
