NEC and Nissan tie up to improve batteries

Nissan has linked with NEC in bid to design better batteries for electric cars. The technology they are looking at is is based on lithium-ion batteries, which are common in electronic gadgets but do have a tendency to explode under stress.

Other car makers have been using nickel-metal hydride batteries, although General Motors is also working on lithium-ion batteries.
NEC Tokin will produce the batteries, according to The Nikkei.
