Microsoft wants in on the OLPC project
Nearly got Windows to work
Microsoft has decided to back the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) project and is trying to get its Windows software running on the reduced price, basic build computers that will be provided.
The OLPC currently runs on Linux, and Microsoft knowns that if the project succeeds then it could mean a large number of people learn about its rival's operating system rather than Windows. According to AP reports, Microsoft has made progress in getting its Windows XP software to run on the OLPC laptop.
Microsoft Corporate Vice President, Will Poole, said in a recent interview that Microsoft was spending a fortune trying to make it work.
