Wants to make it more useful

After
admitting that it might have paid too much for Skype, eBay has indicated that it will restructure the Voice-over-IP company. According to a press release, eBay wants to make Skype more useful to people outside of the online marketplace.

The online auction site on Wednesday reported a third-quarter net loss of $936.6 million, or 69 cents per share. This is compared to a a similar period one yearago, when it earned $280.9 million, or 20 cents per share. Executives claim this is eBay's first quarterly loss since 1999, based on a $900 million write-down in the value of Skype.

The company said that it plans try to expand Skype's reach through partnerships and will also be making more management changes. eBay will be more tightly integrating Skype into its core products.
