American broadcasters have launched an expensive
advertising campaign in a bit to stop the government allowing high-speed
Internet to be beamed down unused TV airwaves.
The National
Association of Broadcasters, says it fears interference with TV programming,
however cynics say that it is more likely to fear the competition from
online broadcasters.
The advertisements will air in the Washington, D.C.
area throughout the week and print ads will run in several Capitol Hill
publications.
They are fighting a technology coalition which includes
Microsoft, Google, Dell, HP, Intel, and EarthLink. They are claiming that
the move will make broadband cheaper, especially in rural areas.
