So says Sony Japan

Although a mini-site has allready appeared and dissapeared on Sony UK, it now appears like Sony Japan has decided to reveal some more information about it's upcoming pro-sumer digital SLR camera.

The α700 as it's known as, should be launched on the 16th of November and will be available in black. The α700 body alone will set you back in the region of €1,144 while with the DT16-105 lens kit, you can expect to pay €1,462. These prices are converted from Japanese Yen, so they might be different once the camera arrives in Europe.

It's using Sony's Exmor CMOS sensor which is capable of 12.24 Megapixels which will take RAW images at 4,288×2,856. The CMOS has been paired up with the BIONZ image processor which supports RAW noise reduction and an ISO sensitivity of 3200.

The body is made from magnesium alloy and all the buttons are sealed to prevent dust from entering the camerad body. The sensor also features a special coating that should deflect dust. There's also a built in optical image stabilizer.

The α700 supports both memorystick duo and compactflash cards and it supports FAT32 formated cards. It's also got HDMI output so you can display your pictures in HD on a compatible HD TV set and it does 1080i out. In addition the camera also has a USB 2.0 port.

The rear display measures 3in and it has 270 pixels per inch which gives it a resolution of 640x480. An optional vertial grip is also available and it's priced at about €222 plus tax. The α700 is powered by a lithium ion battery pack and it should be good for about 650 shots without flash.

The α700 body weighs 690g without batteries and it measures 141.7x104.8x79.7mm (WxHxD), again without any lenses attached.
