So long 65nm

Intel plans to retire five Core 2, Conroe core 65nm based CPUs. This won't take place till Q1 2009 but the last orders will be placed in Q4 2008.

It will discontinue E6850, E6750, E6550 and E6540 while E4600 will get discontinued by June.

The big chip manufacturer will replace these CPUs with E8x00 45nm Wolfdale based CPUs. It looks that a year after the introduction Intel will be ready to almost completely go for 45nm production and this can give you an idea how long will take AMD to get its 45nm act together.

Core 2 Duo E8x00 are selling well but most of the E6x50 CPUs don't actually need replacement, as you only get an incremental performance increase going from E6x50 to E8x00 CPUs.
