Shortage of 45nm quad-cores

It looks that Intel won't overcome its 45nm quad-core production problems even in Q3 2008. We've seen some of the company's future plans that indicatesthat the Core 2 Quad Q6600, the most successful mainstream quad core so far, will at least live through Q3 2008.

The Core 2 Quad Q6600 is based on two 65nm dual-cores stitched together and has proven to be a great part, but its appearance on the Q3 2008 roadmap simply means that Intel plans a shortage of 45nm quad-core parts.

In the last days of the first month of Q2 2008, you can hardly buy any 45nm quad-cores, especially the ones with the full 12MB cache, and we believe that this is the reason to keep the 65nm Q6600 alive, even in Q3 2008.

We believe that Intel has bigger issues with the 45nm quad-core manufacturing than it wants to admit, and it's time to raise this question.
