Does not want users to get their hopes up

Software giant
Microsoft has gone out of its way to quash dark satanic rumours that it is about to release a Zunephone.

In a press release that crossed our desk, Redmond has gone out of its way to make the matter clear. "Microsoft is not going into the phone hardware business. Microsoft is not building a Zune-specific phone," the official statement reads.

Quite why Redmond felt worried that people might believe it is working on a Zunephone is unclear. Perhaps it feared that people would put off buying a Zune if they felt such a gizmo was in the works.

It looks more like Redmond has had enough of the Zune and is walking away from developing it further. Microsoft is more interested in  Windows Mobile 7 and might be jacking Zune under the bonnet of devices that use it, but definitely not a Zunephone.
