Now £167 or €185

Hexus is
reporting that AMD has officially slashed the price of its flagship Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition CPU, in preparation for the launch of the 945 and 955 parts with DDR3 support.

This is the third price cut since the 940 was introduced in January, and although it lacks DDR3 support, it's a pretty good piece of silicone. Unfortunately, while the price has dropped 18 percent in the UK, we're still not seeing a similar drop on the continent, as most retailers are still pricing it at about €185. This is still slightly lower than the €190 to €200 price range we've seen in past weeks, but still far from an 18 percent drop.

The upcoming 945 and 955BE models should end up priced about €200 and €220 respectively, but bear in mind that, unlike the 940, the 945 is not a Black Edition CPU.
