Will ship a million netbooks a month

Acer says it is expecting its performance to pick up in the second quarter, and it also has high hopes for its netbook lineup.

Acer Chairman J.T. Wang says Q2 will definitely be better than Q1, and that the waiting period for some components has already increased, which is an indication that demand is indeed growing.

The outfit plans to ship a million 10-inch Aspire One netbooks a month by May. It has previously forecasted its netbook shipments would range from 12 to 15 million units in 2009. Late last year Acer surpassed Asus in netbook shipments, and it is currently expanding its Aspire One netbook lineup with thinner, stylish models, and preparing to launch a 11.6-inch model, as well.

IDC says Acer managed to ship 32 million PCs last year, making it the world's third largest vendor, trailing behind HP and Dell.
